And before everyone complains, two things:

1. Its my car, not yours, so shut up.

2. I bought the wrong one for the right reasons.

Let me clarify a bit. I just bought a 1992 Nissan 300zx. It is an auto. It is not a turbo. There are a few very good reasons for this:
1. Turbos are really god damn expensive here in LA

2. As I mentioned, I'm in LA. Everyone here sucks. They honk at you if you don't move for a half a second at the lights and I live on a hill. This justifies the auto.

3. The milage. This car has just under 50,000 miles. Since new. It is also reallllyyyyy fucking clean. There are three flaws. One tiny scrape on the front spoiler, one tiny scrape on the back bumper and one of the tail lights is out. Thats it. On a 22 year old car. I guess thats what you get with less then 2300 miles per year.

It also has Volk replica's, a nice stereo and upgraded speakers. Plus the original T-Top bags. It looks like it just came from the factory. I'm really excited.

Kinja'd!!!

Kinja is a bitch so I can't currently upload more photos, but I'll get some more up later.

The only one who is going to complain is you—because supposedly they are a bitch to work on! And the turbo is even worse.

Anyway, congrats on the new car, and yay for the T-tops!!!!!!

T-tops are such a period piece its just amazing. And I have a good Japanese mechanic. Every time I go there he has a Supra or two at the shop. I hope it won't be too much of a pain.

Too bad the new ones don't have T-tops and a rear wiper :(

I used to have a J30 with the same engine and transmission, and repair costs were quite high.

I still would have gotten the auto. 99% of the time you would hate it.

But on those weekend excursions you would be in heaven and not want it any other way!

AS for hills, toe+heel my man, toe+heel. It eats clutches though.

A low mileage survivor car will get no hate from me, regardless of whether its an auto or not. Nice purchase. I'd give everything a good look-over before you start driving in LA traffic.

Check things that people normally check at high mileage—things can possibly go bad just due to age. Jack the car up and check the bushings, body-mount jouncers, and diff fluid. None of this should need to be replaced.

Transmissions generally live difficult lives, especially in hilly areas. Make sure there are not metal flakes in the fluid and that the fluid doesn't smell like it has been cooked.

Just make sure everything looks, sounds, and smells like it should. Given the mileage and condition, you probably won't find anything wrong, but it can't hurt to check. I think its always a good idea to look at these things on a car that is over 10 years old, because it gives a good indication of how well its been taken care of.

The Infiniti J30 (Y32) has the VG30DE, same as your Z32

The VE30 went into some 92-94 Maximas, chassis code J30 (not to be confused with the Infiniti J30!). That VE30 is even worse than the VG30, though.

Mine liked to run on only four cylinders and did have some electrical issues.

Not sure why everyone seems to think that driving a manual in traffic is so damn hard. If you know what you're doing it's completely manageable.

You can't drive on a hill or leave stoplights with a manual transmission? Really? You do realize that these things can be done, right?

-Michael

02/02/2014 at 01:34

Kinja'd!!!0

So thats how you interpreted it. Wow. No, of course I can, but that adds a lot of stress to already stressful LA driving. And a lot of clutches and therefore maintenance costs.

Kinja'd!!! ihbase > Dsscats
02/02/2014 at 01:45

Kinja'd!!!0

Really, if you have a hill or a stoplight you think you need to replace the clutch? I think it is great that you bought a car you like. Nice play. Just don't pretend that if you have a hill or a stoplight, you will face insurmountable challenges with a manual transmission. -Michael

PS: Good looking Z.

Thanks for the compliment, and its not like I think hills and stoplights are impassible challenges, but needing to do hill starts every day several times isn't exactly easy on a clutch

I had a TT 5spd and you re 100% right you literally cannot stick your hand ANYWHERE! there is maybe a 1/2" between the motor and fenders/firewall.

Kinja'd!!!

I know it has a N/A bumper but it was a TT. the original owner had an after market bumper that was cracked in a million places and held together with zip ties. I got this bumper free and was the matching color.

Kinja'd!!!

it is by far the tightest fitting engine I have ever seen in any car.
